“We look to understand unique landscape and urban contexts, the way people use places, and the vision, economics and ambition of projects to maximise the fundamental opportunities that landscape architecture brings in creating better places. ”

Practical sustainability
Our landscape designers help steer sustainable outcomes on projects of any scale. We contribute to strategic development plans, master plans for new cities and mixed-use developments, major projects as well as streets-capes, public realm, green building solutions (green roofs, green walls) and ecological habitats.
In one such project, Zambian Strategic Land Use and Development Plan, we worked closely with the Zambian Government to develop an ambitious spatial framework to support managed growth. Landscape architects played an integral role throughout the process, from initial character assessments through to detailed public realm guidance and policy in the Master-plan
Water quality improvements underpins the integrated landscape and engineering proposals to provide a high quality, inclusive and accessible destination for the wider metropolitan area that promotes health and well-being for local populations.
For clients and design teams, we play an important interpretative role: taking the advice and proposals of many environmental specialists and translating these into coherent deliverable plans.
Informing better outcomes
At Ecoworks, landscape designers work closely with other specialists to produce multiple benefits solutions. We become part of integrated design teams from the start of complex projects By contributing early, we add greater value – whether by informing better designs, helping secure planning consents, or finding programme savings in cost, time and resources.
To achieve that effect, we designed subtle landscape interventions using millions of cubic metres of excavated spoil – a resource-efficient approach that resulted in significant cost savings for the project, whilst also sustainably cutting the costs of transporting and disposing of vast quantities of excavated material.
Likewise, our involvement in master planning helps developers act early on issues that will influence their plans. We helped our client outline a landscape master plan for an influential new low carbon city district.
Our three year research roadmap is currently focused on flooding issues, looking at the potential benefits of using green infrastructure and better catchment management. For clients, our research base means we can bring confidence to their water projects, producing beneficial outcomes for local communities and businesses. Working with our partners, we also encourage and foster innovation through our platform – helping products and services with the potential to tackle major challenges in water get to market quickly..
